Soul Food for Veterans
Are you a US veteran transitioning back to civilian life? Tap into the power of your voice to improve your relationships, connect with your loved ones, and communicate with compassion.
Tap into the power of compassionate communication
As an active service member, you were used to communicating in a certain way — either giving or responding to a direct order. Direct orders are simple, clear, and unambiguous, and as such, they offer a sense of comfort amid the chaos.
This type of communication is essential when lives are at stake, but it is detrimental to relationships on the home front. Your loved ones are excited to reconnect with you – to share the little moments of their day with you and to experience the simple joy of being together. But for them to reestablish that connection with you, they need to feel safe. And for that to happen, you need to adopt a softer style of communication. The life-saving communication style you relied on when you were in the military no longer serves you. It hurts the ones you love most.
How we communicate is pivotal
The voice and presence you cultivated while in the service was part of the culture, as was your regimented daily routine. But now that you’re home, everything has changed. In the service, every day had a goal and a purpose. But now you have to find a new purpose, and a new daily routine.
Imagine if you could release the struggle and step into the best version of yourself. Imagine if you could communicate with your loved ones in a confident, clear, and compassionate way. Imagine navigating a disagreement in such a way that you and your loved one feel heard, understood, and loved. Imagine feeling safe enough to be vulnerable with those you love and to share how your experiences impact you. Imagine having a solid and loving relationship with your partner, your children, and your friends.
Authenticity never fails
Soul Food for Veterans will teach you a new communication model based on authenticity, compassion, and connection. It will help you release past patterns of fear and discover the untapped potential of your voice, body language, and personality to connect with others. It will help you step into the best version of yourself, so you can be there for the people you love.
“As a former member of the armed forces, I see what an impact Liz Howard’s Soul Food method can have on our brothers and sisters during their service as well as when transitioning from military life.”

The Soul Food for Veterans Retreat
Transitioning from active military service to civilian life isn’t easy. But you don’t have to make that journey alone. Soul Food for Veterans lays out a soft carpet, so you can remove your shoes and receive the support and encouragement you need to improve your relationships, connect with your loved ones, and communicate with compassion.
Day 1-2:
Understanding your communication style
Soul Food for Veterans is a three-day, small group retreat. During the first two days, you will join 10-12 veterans, all of whom are transitioning back to civilian life. Together, you will learn and practice my Soul Food Communication method so you can tap into the power of your voice and body language to communicate and connect with your loved ones.
More specifically, you will learn how to:
- Use your body language to make sure your message is heard, received, and understood.
- Tap into the power of your voice as a tool to communicate and connect with others.
- Listen with an open heart and mind so you can respond with compassion.
- Improve your articulation so your voice is clear, strong, and convincing.
- Breathe to calm your nerves before initiating a difficult conversation.
I will share best practices for initiating and engaging in a conversation, and we will explore each of the four communication styles. We will practice the most effective communication techniques for each of these styles. And we will incorporate music and vocal toning into our practice to help manage anxiety and depression and introduce an element of light-hearted play.
“Liz’s specialized breathing method allowed me to overcome stress and manage panic attacks as I reconnected with my authentic self.”

Day 3:
Establishing a communication bond for love and peace
On the third day of the retreat, you are welcome to invite a loved one to join the group. That will allow them to listen and support you on your journey, and it will help you bond as a team.
By opening up the lines of communication, your loved ones will be better equipped to recognize when anxiety, depression, PTSD, or a panic attack is looming and help you manage it.
You and your loved one will have the opportunity to practice my breathing method together. You will also practice vocal toning together. These techniques are soothing and have the power to ground you, softly bringing you back from the brink so you can weather the storm together.

Hmmm, where do I start?
I am the creator of the Soul Food Communication Method, and I’ve been training groups and coaching executives for over 20 years.
I am a voice healer.
I’ve traveled throughout Europe and speak German fluently. And I love being on stage and using music to inspire people to become better communicators. But small group work is where my heart and soul come alive.
Before every engagement, I ask God to bless my ears to hear not just the words people say but the message they are trying to convey. And I give thanks to the universe for trusting me to work with her special souls.
I am a voice healer.
That is my purpose.
